Scientific Goals of the Project
The project deals with aspects of elementary
particle interactions that cannot be addressed (reliably) using perturbative
methods of quantum field theory. In particular, the investigated problems will
include the physical mechanism of confinement in quantum chromodynamics on the
lattice, where the emphasis will be put on common features of various models
and approaches; the analysis of symmetry breaking and vacuum structure in
light-front field theory models (self-interacting scalar theory in the
broken-symmetry phase, two-dimensional SU(2) gauge theory with massive adjoint
fermions); formulation of higher-order renormalization group equations and
investigation of their applications within the Standard Model; and the
determination of the pion-nucleon sigma-term, related to the strangeness
content of nucleons and playing an important role in the understanding of
strong-interaction phenomena.
Project topics are
closely related to international cooperations of the investigators.
Results will be
published in respected scientific journals.
